This operating system was like a habit in daily life, from a kid to a business tycoon everyone knew about it. So, let’s know about it in details.
Windows 7 is a computer operating system that was manufactured by Microsoft. This operating system was released to manufacturing on July 22, 2009, became available on October 22. Windows 7’s server contemporary, Windows Server 2008 R2, was released at the same time. Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 13, 2015, and it terminated its extended support on January 14, 2020.
In comparison to Windows Vista, Windows 7 was much preferred by critics, Windows 7 was a huge success for Microsoft; in just six months, over 100 million copies had been sold worldwide, increasing to over 630 million licenses by July 2012. Windows 7 was codenamed as “Blackcomb”.
This operating system was the successor to Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 in 2000. This operating system was made for emphasising on searching and query data and an advanced storage system named WinFS. A minor release, codenamed “Longhorn,” was announced for 2003. By the middle of 2003, however, Longhorn had adopted some of the features originally inbuilt in Blackcomb. In August 2004. A number of features were removed from Longhorn. Blackcomb was renamed Vienna in early 2006.
In October 2008, Windows 7 was the official name of the operating system. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer confirmed that Windows Vista and Windows 7 are compatible with each other and Windows 7 would be a refined version of Windows Vista. According to a performance test conducted by ZDNet Windows, 7 Beta beat both Windows XP and Vista in several key areas, On January 7, 2009, the x64 version of the Windows 7 Beta was leaked on the internet.
In Windows 7’s new highlighted features advanced in touch and handwriting recognition improved media features were XPS Essentials Pack and Windows Powershell. And a redesigned calculator was also included. Troubleshooting, Workspaces Centre, Location and Other Sensors, Credential Manager, Biometric Devices, System Icons, and Display options were also included. The taskbar was the major change in the visual area which attracted lots of attention. It also included 13 additional sound schemes, titled Afternoon, Calligraphy, Characters, Cityscape, Delta, Festival, Garden, Heritage, Landscape, Quirky, Raga, Savanna, and Sonata.
A new addition in this list was internet Explorer 8, Windows Media Player 12, Windows Media Center, Windows Search, and Windows Gadget Platform. Sale of new OEM licenses for Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, and Ultimate stopped on October 31, 2014. In October 2013, a Disk Cleanup Wizard addon was released that allowed users to delete outdated Windows updates on Windows 7 SP1, thus to reduce the size of winsxs directory. On March 4, 2010, Microsoft sold 90 million Windows 7 licenses. By the end of April 2010 more than 100 million copies of windows 7 was sold in six months, which made Windows 7 as the fastest-selling operating system. By end of July 2010 150 million copies of windows, 7 was sold which made it the fastest-selling operating system in history with 7 copies sold in every 1 second. By the end of July 2010 175 million copies were sold, then by the end of October 2010 240 million copies were sold and three months later by the mid of January 2011 it hit the mark of 300 million copies and by the mid of July 2011, the numbers reached up to 400 million which kept growing till it reached the number of 630 million by July 2012.
This operating system achieved some marvellous targets during its lifetime which any of the Microsoft Operating systems could possibly achieve with such huge success. This operating system was like an addiction to the world Computer, from a corporate house to a personal computer this operating system was an all-time favourite. Even today in this advancing and upgrading world of technology this operating system survived with the same demand as the new version of Windows. Though it’s sad to know that now its journey has ended. No matter what will be the height of technology in the coming future, but when people will talk about older days of computer operating system this operating system will always be worth remembering.
